*note* Some special keys may be different on different keyboards. (for example: on some keyboards \ is the command prompt)
The function keys (F1,F2,F3,etc) select groups starting with F1 for the top group, F2 for the second, etc.

All of these characters will appear on the screen if the Write tool is selected. (a blank description indicates nothing happens by default)

| Shift | shows you a preview of what will be drawn |
| Ctrl (control) | hold down to toggle “draw straight lines” or “draw dots” |
| Alt | hold down to toggle “draw boxes” or “draw dots” |
| Ctrl + Alt | hold down to toggle “draw boxes w/ straight lines” or “draw dots” |
